Description

20 Goat Street is a terraced house built with painted stucco and features a slate roof with a stack at the right end. It has a delicate painted timber modillion eaves cornice on a broad raised band. The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. There is a broad band under the cornice, three plate glass sashes on the first floor, and two broad ground floor windows, each consisting of two plate glass panes with two 6-pane top lights, along with a recessed central door. The door is unusual, featuring five panels with two arched panels, a horizontal mid-panel, and two flush lower panels, topped by a narrow small-paned overlight. The doorcase, which is stuccoed and dates from around 1900, has a moulded shouldered architrave and pediment.

The house also includes a large gabled dormer from the early 20th century, which has a 9-pane centre light flanked by casements, with weatherboarding and bargeboards above. The right end wall is made of rubble stone. At the rear, there is a long stair-light to the left with marginal panes, which was formerly fitted with coloured glass, and an added gabled wing to the right.

Inside, the house features a tiled hall and a rear right dog-leg stair with late Victorian or early 20th century turned balusters and turned newels topped with ball finials. The stair has a closed string. The front left room contains a small timber chimney piece that may be late Georgian, along with a Victorian cast-iron grate.
