Description

The Old St. Mary's Vicarage is an end terrace house, built with painted stucco and featuring a renewed slate roof with flat eaves. It has painted brick end stacks and is two storeys high with a three-bay front that displays details from the late 19th century or early 20th century. The bays are arranged with two on the left and one on the right, which may indicate that a narrow house was extended.

On the right side, there are four-pane sash windows on both floors, along with a window above the door. To the left, there is a large two-storey canted bay window that has turned column angles, moulded cornices, and a flat top positioned just below the eaves. The doorway features a square-headed design set in a plain square-headed surround and is accessed by three slate steps. It has a modern six-panel door with a modern radiating-bar fanlight above. Although there were fixings for a timber doorcase, no photographs exist; a new doorcase designed by architect W. Spees is planned for installation in 2005. The rear of the house has been altered and is clad in cedar shingles from the mid-20th century.

Inside, the late 19th century or early 20th century entrance hall is open to the upper floor and features a fine open well staircase. The staircase has a mahogany handrail, cast-iron balusters, and turned hardwood newels with finials, along with scrolled tread ends. The hall floor is covered with geometric tiles. The northeast room on the ground floor has an earlier 19th century undercut cornice and a ceiling border decorated with rosettes in a scroll pattern, as well as a marble fireplace.
