Description

The Shire Hall is a two-storey building in a classical style, constructed with painted stucco and featuring a 20th-century metal sheet roof. It has a five-bay front that is arranged in a 1-3-1 configuration, with the central bay featuring a pediment supported by giant Ionic pilasters and an entablature. The side bays have a cornice of entablature and a parapet. The cornice and pediment are adorned with modillions.

There is a broad moulded sill band between the floors, with the upper floor showcasing 12-pane hornless sash windows. The central three windows are framed with plain moulded architraves, while the outer windows have additional plain stucco surrounds with consoles, frieze, and pediment. The ground floor has arched openings, including three arched windows with similar architraves and large outer doors. The windows feature radiating bars in their heads, and the doors are complemented by large, finely detailed radiating-bar fanlights. The entrance consists of double six-panel doors, each accessed by four sandstone steps. There is also a basement vent located under the window to the left of the center, and the building stands on a raised plinth.

The interior is not available for inspection, but it includes a D-plan top-lit courtroom with impressive neo-Grec plaster details on a coffered barrel ceiling, along with giant Ionic pilasters along the rear wall.
