Description

The Balfour Conservative Club, originally a savings bank, is a two-storey building designed in the Italianate style, constructed with painted stucco and topped with a slate roof. It features four bays, with a prominent pediment over the two central bays and a parapet above the outer bays. The building has an entablature that includes a deep frieze and cornice, which is broken forward beneath the pediment that contains a clock in a keyed roundel.

On the upper floor, there are four large sash windows that have marginal panes, set within moulded architraves and adorned with moulded cornices supported by consoles. A moulded string course runs above the channelled ground floor, which has two central sash windows also in moulded architraves. These windows are flanked by panelled pilasters that support curved pediments. At either end of the building, there are doorways flanked by Ionic pilasters, each with a frieze and triangular pediment. The doorways feature recessed double panelled doors with overlights and are set on a moulded plinth.

The front of the building is enclosed by spearhead railings atop low chamfered stone coping. There are two sets of thin panelled cast-iron gate piers with moulded pyramid caps, although the two iron gates mentioned in 1974 are now missing. The interior has not been inspected.
