Description

The Olde Three Crowns is an inn built with painted stucco and features a close-eaved slate roof that is three-quarter hipped towards Quay Street, with a coped gable slope at the corner of Shire Hall. The building has two storeys and an attic, presenting a three-window range with a small renewed gabled dormer on the right, which has a slated gable and cheeks. The windows are sash style, with two panes in the top sash and a single pane in the lower sash. There are three closely spaced upper windows above the central door, and three ground floor windows with curved upper corners. To the right of the door, there are two windows, with the inner one aligned with the outer window above. The larger sash window to the left of the door is set well to the left of the outer window above. On Quay Street, there is a one-window range with an attic sash under the eaves, a pair of sashes on the first floor, a single sash on the ground floor, and a basement vent. A rear entrance is located to the left, incorporated into a large 20th-century addition to Shire Hall.

Inside, the ground floor has been opened out and features three ceiling beams. There is a fireplace on the rear wall to the right, with a timber lintel that continues over a doorway to the right. The window to Quay Street has panelled reveals. An iron column supports the parallel rear part, which includes a small section of red brick walling within a thin timber frame. The rear ground floor has two pine beams supported by iron columns, and some heavy beams are present on the first floor.
