Description
30a Main Street is a 17th-century building featuring a lean-to and a rear wing that is painted roughcast, topped with a slate roof and a small central metal flue. The lean-to is located on the gable end wall of No 30, with a range extending back along a narrow lane. The end wall facing Main Street has a small, square fixed 6-pane window in the upper storey and a slightly larger 20th-century 9-pane sash window on the ground floor.
The lane frontage is divided into three sections: the lean-to section consists of two bays, followed by a fully roofed section with slightly higher eaves also spanning two bays, and a covered yard section beyond. The lean-to section features a 12-pane sash window on the right side of the first floor and a 9-pane sash window on the left side of the ground floor.
The main part of the building includes a 9-pane sash window to the right on the first floor, a 4-pane sash window directly below it, and another 4-pane sash window to the left. The wall of the covered yard has a doorway leading to the yard, which is fitted with a plank stable door. The gable end above the yard contains a 20th-century metal-framed window that provides light to the attic space.
Previous listings noted that the lower front window was originally metal-framed, and the door in the main portion of the building has since been replaced by a window.
