Description
The Pater Fort southwest and west walls are a Grade II listed structure. These walls feature a high battered design facing southwest, constructed from squared ashlar blocks, though the top has been lost, revealing the rubble beneath. At the southern end, there is an obtuse angle with the beginnings of a short length that connects back to the dockyard wall, which is concealed by a 20th-century embankment. The rear northern side has an earth embankment that includes sunk gun emplacements and continues west as a sheer wall supported by a deep stone buttress. The wall then returns north, remaining sheer and showing marks of removed buttress walls, with one buttress still intact at the northern end near the Salvage Store.
