Description

Building Slip No 2 is a shipbuilding slip dating from around 1845. It is one of four remaining slips out of the thirteen that were listed in 1981. The slip features limestone ashlar sides with granite copings and a concrete bottom. The battered side walls have two high steps, referred to as 'altars,' which lead to flights of granite steps at the northern end. Each side wall includes a flight of steps, and the northern end has slots on each side for a caisson. The granite coping is arranged in three steps on each side. The southern end has been remodelled in concrete, showing signs of earlier lengthening with rubble stone.
