Description

Mendus Pharmacy is a terraced house and shop, built with painted roughcast and stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof that has a brick stack on the right side. The building stands three storeys high and has a two-window range. It features brick dentils along the eaves, which are continuous with those of the adjacent property, No 29. The windows are late 19th century or early 20th century four-pane horned sashes. The upper floor windows are square and set in late 19th century moulded surrounds with vermiculated keystones, while the first floor windows are longer and framed with simple cornices. Both floors have sill courses.

The ground floor has a shop front that dates from the late 19th century to early 20th century, but it was altered in the late 20th century to include plate glass windows and a glass door. The shop front is flanked by outer pilasters with large triple consoles and barrel-topped finials. There are four windows in total, with two similar thin piers flanking the second window, and a broader pilaster to the left of the fourth window, which likely indicates former doors. The shopfront detail contains much 20th century timber, suggesting extensive remodelling.

At the rear, there is a large roughcast wing that is three storeys tall. A narrow section of the rear wall of the front range is visible to the left, featuring some slate-hanging. There are 20th century external steps leading to doors for the flats above.

The ground floor has been fully opened up to serve as a shop that extends through both the front range and the rear wing. Panelled shutters are present on the first floor windows.
