Description
Barclays Bank is a bank premises built in the 19th century, featuring painted roughcast with stucco dressings and a painted stone or artificial stone ground floor bank front. The building has a slate roof and a rendered stack at the right end. It stands three storeys tall with a three-window range. The upper floors are adorned with raised angle pilasters, which have caps that are slightly higher than the deep bracketed eaves. The windows are set in moulded surrounds, with the top floor featuring nine-pane sash windows that have a moulded sill course. The first floor has long 15-pane sash windows, with the surrounds shouldered and featuring brackets at the sills. The centre window is topped with a shallow shouldered pediment.
The ground floor has a six-bay front, complete with an overall frieze and cornice. There are seven chamfered pilasters with moulded caps and neck rings, and a deep chamfered plinth between the bases of the pilasters. Beneath five 20th-century plate glass windows with 6-pane top lights, there are sunk panels, with the right window altered for a cash dispenser. The left bay features a similar overlight above a moulded cornice that leads to double panelled doors.
The rear of the building has modern dry dash render and includes a two-storey southwest rear wing, with all windows being modern. The main building to the right has one modern first floor window and a modern flat-roofed ground floor addition. The interior of the ground floor has been completely altered.
