Description
Cromwell House, located at Nos. 1 and 3 City Road, is a three-storey warehouse built from brown rubble stone with dressings in two colours of brick. It features a slate close-eaved roof with red brick corniced end stacks. The building has six bays, with cambered-headed sash windows on the upper floors, which are set in surrounds with alternating yellow and red brick voussoirs and red brick rusticated jambs. The windows have slate sills, with 9 panes on the top floor and 12 panes on the first floor. Above the ground floor, there is a wide white-painted band. The ground floor has three broad square-headed openings with grey limestone quoins, including a central carriageway, a plain modern shop window, and a doorway on either side. The left end wall is canted to accommodate an earlier cottage to the left. The interior has been altered, with the right side of the ground floor used as an office and the upper floors converted into flats.
