Description

The Main Gateway and Flanking Walls and Terrace at Castle Hall House is a notable structure featuring a wide rubble stone carriage arch with a depressed arch head and cut stone voussoirs. The inner jambs are rebated with pintles for gate hinges. To the left of the main arch is a small pedestrian arch that has a similar head. The wallhead is covered in creepers and steps down to the left before returning eastward. To the right of the main arch, a full-height wall returns westward to flank the driveway, which has three low depressed-arched openings of unknown purpose, before returning south. Behind this is a terraced embankment that may have supported an earlier driveway, resting on four arched vaults with brick undersides and rubble facing. The left vault contains the remains of a circular opening, possibly for a well.
