Description
The arched entry to the south of Castle Hall House likely dates from the early 19th century and is part of the estate improvements made by Benjamin Rotch, a North American Quaker and whaling ship owner. He settled in Milford at the invitation of Charges Greville, purchasing the Castle Hall estate in 1804 and making extensive improvements before his bankruptcy in 1817.
The structure resembles the entrance gateway and archway to the east of the modern Castle Hall House. It is constructed from rubble stone with rough stone voussoirs forming a semi-circular arch, which features a grey stone keystone. The wall head is adorned with climbing plants.
