Description

Elm Cottage is a house that features white-painted roughcast with a slate roof and brick end stacks. It is two storeys high and has three bays, with bracketed eaves. The windows are hornless 12-pane sash types, and the central entrance has a recessed door with a traceried overlight. The doorway is framed by a moulded architrave topped with a moulded cornice supported by long console brackets. The six-panel door is set in flush-panelled reveals, with two of the panels being glazed. The left end of the house is windowless and shows the outline of a gable from a small building that was once attached. On the right end, there is a one-bay outbuilding made of rubble stone, which has a close-eaved slate roof and a small brick stack at the right end. The front wall of the house was cemented in 1974. The upper window features a red brick arch, while the coach entry below has a flat red brick head, both with stone keystones. Below the coach entry, there are a pair of wooden boarded doors with a long overlight containing six panes.

The small raised forecourt is enclosed by plain iron railings set on painted rendered walls, and there are scrolled wrought iron gates at each end. The left gate is positioned at the top of a flight of steps, accompanied by 20th-century railings.
