Description

Pier House is a house that has been converted into flats. It is built of painted stucco and features three storeys plus a basement, with four bays. The building has a moulded cornice with dentils and parapets at varying heights. To the left of the entrance, there is a two-window range, while the right side has a one-window range. The gables are coped, and there are large rendered chimneys at the right end and between the first and second bays.

The doorway is framed by stucco pilasters and an entablature, featuring a six-panel door with an overlight. Above the door, there are a pair of pilasters on a large plain plinth that extends through two floors to capitals at the level of the main cornice. There is a high parapet over this bay and over the bay to the left, with raised strips in the parapet above the pilasters. The left bay has four-pane sash windows on each floor, set in a moulded surround with a moulded detached cornice above. The outer bays have similar ground floor windows beneath two-storey stuccoed canted oriel windows, which also have moulded cornices and shaped panelled bases. The right bay's parapet is lower than that of the middle two bays, while the left bay has only a blocking course above the cornice, which continues around the narrow east end elevation.

The east end features cambered-headed four-pane sash windows on the first and second floors. The first-floor window has a moulded surround with a sill supported by brackets and a detached cornice above, also on brackets. The second-floor window has a detached cornice but lacks the moulded surround.

The rear of the building facing Bridge Street has a plain stuccoed elevation that has been modernised. The parapet steps up to the right. On the ground floor, there is a door leading to the Pier House Garden Flat on the left, which is a 20th-century door with an overlight in a stuccoed surround that includes a keystone. To the right, there are long two-pane stair lights, one for each floor. Above the door, there are three small windows, one on each floor, which may have been inserted later.
