Description
A pair of former coastguard cottages, built in 1834, stand on the east side of the main street in Bosherston village, approximately 100 metres south of the churchyard. The cottages are joined and are two storeys high, with a double-fronted design, each featuring a central entrance and porch facing west. They are constructed of local limestone, which has been rendered. The openings are topped with flat arches. The front windows are all pairs of nine-pane casements set within a chamfered frame with mullions. The roof is slate-covered, and the building has end chimneys, with a further chimney located centrally between the two cottages, all built of limestone. The left cottage’s porch is supported by rough timber posts, while the porch of the right cottage is supported by cast-iron columns. The cottages have been extended at the rear.
Inside, a central lobby gives access to the staircase. The internal windows incorporate built-in seats recessed within the wall below the sill. The cottages were listed due to their quality as estate cottages and their attractive appearance on a prominent village site.
