Description

This is a late 18th century house, likely built after 1782, situated on the south side of the road leading into Bosherston village from the Pembroke direction. The property served as a parsonage until recently.

The main house is two storeys high with a cellar, presenting a three-window front facing north. It is constructed of rendered rubble masonry, accentuated by brick dentils at the eaves and irregularly placed block brackets supporting rainwater gutters. The windows are six-pane sash windows, with the outer windows being tripartite, featuring two mullions and narrow two-pane side sashes. The roof is hipped and covered in slate, with end chimneys. A front garden wall made of rubble masonry runs along the front, with a mounting block near the left entrance gate. A symmetrical stone staircase, approximately 1.2 meters in rise, provides access to the front door landing, with wrought-iron railings. The arched doorway is deep-set, featuring a fanlight, moulded archivolt, and thin sunk-panel pilasters.

A schoolroom wing was added in 1838, set back from the main frontage on the west side. A larger servants’ wing, constructed in limestone masonry, was built later to the east, before 1864. This wing is a two-window range with six-pane sash windows in brick-dressed openings, slightly set back from the main block. A rear service wing adjoins the kitchen and incorporates a dairy.

The interior follows a double-pile and double-fronted plan, featuring a full-depth hallway and a dogleg staircase. The original staircase has well-proportioned flights with a simple square-section balustrade. A landing window is positioned at the rear, slightly off-centre. Ceilings are notably high, and the front contains a dining and drawing room. The floor plan was altered in 1838 to provide access to the new schoolroom. The front bedrooms on both the left and right sides retain their original fireplaces; the left fireplace is complete and has unusual dust-flues from the smoke-shelf. Windows throughout are fitted with inside folding shutters.

The building is listed as a fine late-Georgian parsonage.
