Description

The Post Office is a neo-Georgian style building constructed from bath stone ashlar with roughcast upper floors. It features a steep-hipped roof covered with green concrete tiles, which is set back behind a parapet. The building is three stories high with a seven-window front, where the outer windows are narrower than the others. There are two tall rendered stacks on the front roof slope. The ground floor is made of ashlar with a plinth and band, and the sash windows above have stone sills, with 15-pane windows on the first floor and 12-pane windows on the upper floor, each with 10-pane and 8-pane outer windows, respectively. The parapet has stone plain coping.

The ground floor showcases a large shallow bow window at the center, which has an entablature inscribed with 'Lampeter Post Office' in the frieze. This window is flanked by doors on each side, which are set within finely carved Corinthian doorcases featuring attached columns and projecting entablatures. The doorframes are bolection moulded, and the doors are six-panel designs. The center bow window has small-paned stained-wood glazing arranged in a pattern of 12-28-12 panes, with the glazing bars including a roundel for a clock. Below the window, there is panelled ashlar walling. Each side of the bow window features a single arched window, which is narrow and set in a recessed surround with matching glazing bars. The date is carved on the left side of the ground floor.

Inside, the building retains original dado panelling, a counter, and a coffered ceiling.
