Description
This building in Ceredigion is a Georgian structure featuring a symmetrical design with three storeys and a basement, showcasing a five-window painted roughcast front with a plinth. It has a slate roof, boarded eaves, and chimney stacks made of brick and rubble. The windows are recessed sash windows, with small panes on the second and ground floors, as well as in the basement. A broad central Ionic doorcase is adorned with a bracket cornice and a plain entablature, featuring panelled reveals and soffit, panelled double doors, and a traceried fanlight. The left gable end is roughcast, while the rear is constructed of rubble and includes small pane sash windows with voussoir lintels.
Inside, the building retains many original details, including a broad entrance hall with an acanthus and bracket cornice, and a large pilaster with a foliated rose on the ceiling. A broad segmental arch, supported by paired Doric columns and with panelled doors, leads to the original open well staircase, which features a similar cornice. To the right, the Building Control Office has filled in triple arch alcoves. The cellars are tunnel vaulted and now divided into separate spaces. The interior also includes panelled doors and reeded doorcases.
