Description

The Rectory comprises three dwellings, Nos. 7, 8, and 9, dating from the Victorian period. The facades are two storeys with a basement and attic, and are finished with cement render, scribed to the first floor and channelled to the ground floor, featuring quoins. The roofs are slate, with bracket eaves, and the chimney stacks are a mix of rubble and brick. Victorian dormers with cusped bargeboards are present on Nos. 7 and 8, while No. 9 has more modern dormers with grouped floors. No. 9 also features raised pediments above the first-floor windows, set above a stringcourse that aligns with the eaves of Nos. 7 and 8.

A scribed cement render to the left end of No. 7 incorporates a fine, fluted column doorcase with a wide cornice, panelled reveals, and a door with a traceried fanlight. Similar doorcases are found at Nos. 8 and 9, with double doors at No. 8. The stringcourse of No. 9 continues around the right side, incorporating pediments above bolection moulded lintels. Sash windows are fitted with shutters and lack glazing bars.

The south-east corner of the property has an Edwardian, octagonal ‘prospect tower’ with small panes to the upper sashes, an egg and dart cornice, and volute brackets. The rear elevation is partly of rubble construction, with a tall 18-pane sash window visible in the staircase area. The rears of Nos. 7 and 8 are also of rubble construction.

Contemporary wrought iron railings with interlace balusters are retained throughout the site. No. 9 is bounded to the right by a cement-rendered wall.

The interiors retain significant contemporary detail, particularly in the entrance halls. No. 8 features a stairwell arch supported by paired fluted Doric columns with acanthus ornamentation and a panelled soffit, along with reeded doorcases and other decorative elements.
