Description

4 Laura Place is a two-storey building with a basement and attic, featuring a three-window stucco front that steps up at No 4. The ground floors are scribed, with quoins and a bracketed cill band at No 1. The roofs are slate, hipped at the ends, with wide bracket eaves and rubble chimney stacks capped with brick. The building has paired sash windows in slate-hung dormers with cusped bargeboards, and small-pane sash windows below, which are taller on the ground floors. Nos 1 and 4 have margin panes, and No 1 features bracket cornices on the ground floor. Nos 2 to 6 have blind boxes, and the central first-floor windows of Nos 1 to 3 are blocked. The entrances to Nos 1 to 5 are offset to the right, while No 6 has its entrance on New Street. All the entrances retain fine doorcases with Roman Doric columns, bracketed hoods, and panelled doors, except for No 6, which has reeded doorcases. The fanlights above the doors vary, with modern fanlights at No 6, and No 3 is illuminated by carriage lamps. Wrought iron railings with interlace balusters are still present at the front. The end elevations of Nos 1 and 6 are stucco with two windows; the windows at No 1 are broadly spaced, while all but one window at No 6 are blocked. There is a stepped-down extension towards the rear of No 6, which contains the main entrance. The rear features various cross ranges and lean-tos made of roughcast and whitewashed rubble, with some small-pane sash windows and dormers. Notably, No 4 has an Art Nouveau chimney pot on its cross range.

The interiors of the buildings retain some fine features. No 6 includes an ornate openwell staircase, and a segmental arch on Doric columns leads to the dining room, which has moulded cornices, panelled shutters, and doors.
