Description

2 Laura Place is a two-storey building with a basement and attic, featuring a three-window stucco front that steps up at No 4. The ground floors are scribed, and there are quoins with a bracketed cill band at No 1. The building has slate roofs that are hipped at the ends, wide bracket eaves, and rubble chimney stacks with brick cappings. The dormers are slate hung and have paired sash windows with cusped bargeboards, while the lower levels have small-pane sash windows, with taller ones on the ground floors. Nos 1 and 4 have margin details, and No 1 features bracket cornices on the ground floor. Nos 2 to 6 have blind boxes, and the central first-floor windows of Nos 1 to 3 are blocked. The entrances to Nos 1 to 5 are offset to the right, and No 6 has its entrance on New Street. All entrances retain fine doorcases with Roman Doric columns, bracketed hoods, and panelled doors, except for No 6, which has reeded details. The fanlights vary, with modern ones at No 6, and No 3 is illuminated by carriage lamps. Wrought iron railings with interlace balusters are preserved at the front. The end elevations of Nos 1 and 6 are also stuccoed, with windows spaced broadly at No 1 and all but one blocked at No 6. No 6 has a stepped-down extension at the rear with the main entrance. The rear features various cross ranges and lean-tos made of roughcast and whitewashed rubble, with some small-pane sash windows and dormers. Notably, No 4 has an Art Nouveau chimney pot on its cross range.

The interiors of the building retain some fine features. No 6 includes an ornate openwell staircase, and a segmental arch on Doric columns leads to the dining room, which has moulded cornices, panelled shutters, and doors.
