Description
18 New Street is a Victorian-altered late Georgian terrace. It is a three-storey building with a basement and has a two-window facade that features mostly scribed, roughcast render. The pairs of houses at Nos 10 and 12, and Nos 14 and 16, are reflected pairs, while No 8 has an additional window on the altered ground floor. The terrace has slate roofs, wide bracket eaves, and mainly rubble chimney stacks. The sash windows do not have glazing bars, except for those in the basements. There are three-storey bay windows at Nos 10 to 20, and No 6 features a two-storey oriel window above a tripartite ground floor window. All houses, except No 7, have pilastered doorcases with cornice lintels, and various panelled doors. The doorcase at No 20 has been filled in with a fixed glazed window, and the entrance is now in Castle Street through a similar doorcase. The rendered end wall has a sash window on the right.
