Description
10 New Street is a Victorian-altered late Georgian terrace. The terrace includes Nos 6, 18, and 20, which are shown on a map from 1834. The buildings are three stories tall and have basements, except for No 6. They feature two-window render frontages, mostly scribed, with roughcast surfaces. Nos 10 and 12, as well as 14 and 16, are reflected pairs, while No 8 has an additional window on the altered ground floor. The roofs are slate, with wide bracket eaves and mainly rubble chimney stacks. The sash windows do not have glazing bars, except for those in the basements. Nos 10 to 20 have three-story bay windows, and No 6 features a two-story oriel window above a tripartite ground floor window. All buildings, except No 7, have pilastered doorcases with cornice lintels, and there are various panelled doors. The doorcase of No 20 has been filled in with a fixed glazed window, and the entrance is now located on Castle Street through a similar doorcase. The rendered end wall has a sash window to the right.
