8 Albany Place, Nunholm Road, Dumfries

8 Albany Place is a late Georgian terrace from the earlier 19th century, set back from the road. The terrace consists of three main building phases, with Nos 8-14 constructed first and No 22 built last. The buildings are two storeys high with basements. No 22 features two bays, while the other houses have three bays with a central door. The exterior is made of droved red ashlar, featuring pilastered doorpieces and projecting first-floor cills, although most of the surface is now painted. The houses have panelled doors, except for No 12, and fanlights, with Nos 16, 18, and 20 showcasing arched doorways. Steps leading to the doors are equipped with iron handrails. The windows are mainly single, originally designed with a 12-pane glazing pattern; Nos 16 and 20 have full-height canted windows, and No 22 has a tripartite window on the ground floor. Architectural details include a base course, eaves course, cornice, and dormers, although Nos 12, 14, and 18 lack dormers. The buildings have straight skews, end stacks, and slate roofs. There are small front gardens, but the original railings have been removed. No 22 is marked by two square rusticated ashlar piers. The rear elevations are plainer, with some houses featuring wallhead gables and others with forestairs.
