Description
Abermagwr Sawmill is a 19th-century sawmill constructed from rubble stone and timber, topped with a hipped roof made of corrugated iron. The building is a long, two-storey structure featuring an open ground floor supported by stone corner piers, with a loft floor above. The northern wall has rubble stone infill, and there is an outside water-wheel housed in an open-fronted lean-to made of stone at one end. The large cast-iron wheel, located in a wheel-pit, has iron spokes and a rim marked "Davies & Durie Aberystwyth 1868." The left wall of the lean-to is designed with a pierce for a timber launder.
To the right of the lean-to, there is an open bay with 20th-century timber steps leading up to a loft door, and a timber lintel above a boarded-in ground floor bay. The western end of the building features corner piers and an open ground floor, with boarding above, and is adjacent to a barn built around 2000. The southern side has an additional open lean-to and a loft supported by two cast-iron columns, originally three, with iron lintels, creating an open upper floor. The eastern end has 20th-century boarding on the loft, which includes a fixed eight-pane window, while the ground floor has a small boarded lean-to on the left and a window and door on the right, with one iron column supporting an iron lintel.
Inside, the open ground floor contains belt-driven circular saws, and there is an iron axial lintel set back from the eastern end to an iron column.
