Description

Ty Mawr is a substantial house built with stucco and features a hipped slate eaves roof on the main part, along with an apex brick corniced stack. The building stands three storeys high with an attic and has a one-window main front, complemented by a recessed wing to the left.

The main front showcases a rusticated ground floor topped by a cornice, followed by three bays on the upper floors, which include narrow blank panels flanking the central window bay. A cornice runs across at the first floor level, supported by four piers with paired brackets beneath the eaves. The first floor features a large canted oriel window with cornices around both the base and the head, plate glass sashes, and a cast-iron floral railing above, in front of a tripartite sash on the second floor. There is also a prominent stucco eaves dormer with an arch-headed design. The ground floor has a symmetrical shopfront with recessed doors, which has been remodelled in the 20th century but remains within its original frame. The stucco continues across the plain side wall to Market Lane for half the depth, transitioning to rubble stone with ashlar window frames.

To the left of the main front, there is a set-back entrance bay featuring a rusticated ground floor with an arched doorway that includes a keystone, a six-panel door, and a plain fanlight. Above this, there are similar narrow arched sashes on each floor, each topped with an arched hood, and a plain parapet. Adjacent to this is a single-storey shop that is also rusticated, with a cornice that extends across.

Inside, there is an open-well stair that rises two floors, featuring turned balusters and a continuous rail. The ground floor has patterned tile floors and stained glass roundels on the inner hall door.
