Description

The National Westminster Bank is a house that has been altered, likely during its conversion for the National Provincial Bank around 1890. It features a stucco front, a slate roof, and modern brick end stacks. The building stands two and a half storeys tall and has a five-window range, consisting of three bays and two bays. The eaves overhang and are supported by paired brackets, with three hornless 12-pane sash windows set into half-dormers with flat roofs.

On the first floor, there are five four-pane sash windows from around 1890, which are set in slim raised surrounds. These windows are grouped with three on the left and two on the right, and they do not align with the windows above. The ground floor has five bays and three windows, with the main door to the bank and a door to the upper floors framed by a row of pilasters that have swollen capitals and an entablature. In front of the main door, in the wider bay, the entablature is broken forward and supported by two matching square piers. The windows feature plate glass sashes, and there is a modern main door with an overlight, along with a four-panel door with an overlight in the final bay.

Inside, the building retains two flights of the original mid-18th century staircase, which has twisted balusters, a moulded rail, and square newels. The upper landing features flat balusters.
