Description
The Former Bacchus Wine Bar is a three-storey building constructed in a U-shape, featuring whitewashed rubble walls and slate roofs that are hipped on the south side. The northern side has two broad gable ends. On the eastern side, there are twin blocked pitched roof dormers with wide eaves situated above combined first and second floor windows that have brick jambs. The entrance, located to the right, is below the level of the terrace. The southern side has three windows with curved brace plates and mostly modern small pane top hung casements, along with a broad segmental voussoir arch that leads to a former cellar opening on the ground floor. The western side has two windows with similar designs and boarded doors. The terrace to the east is bordered by a rubble revetment of the bridge.
Inside, part of the second floor has been removed, but the main joists remain. The roof features a king post construction with unusual lap dovetail joints, and some timbers are marked with Roman numerals. The interior has mostly exposed rubble, with the top floor rendered and modernized for living accommodation on the western side.
