English Baptist Chapel

The English Baptist Chapel is an Italianate simple classical building dating from the 19th century. It features a two-storey and basement structure with a gable-ended front, constructed from snecked rubble with rendered dressings. The gable is adorned with finials, although the apex finial is missing, and includes banded end pilaster strips, a band course with a vacant datestone, and a plinth. The chapel has a slate roof.

At the center of the front facade is a tall, stilted arched window with plate tracery, featuring a rose pattern oculus. The outer bay windows are recessed beneath gabled hoods with voussoirs. The windows on both the ground and gallery storeys are arranged within a single giant arch with a bracket cill and include marginal glazing bars, with punched roundels on the dividing bands. The entrance is a raised central cambered arch supported by cylindrical columns with foliage capitals, leading to double boarded doors set in a shouldered recess. The basement features sash windows, while the side elevations are five bays of scribed cement render with arched headed sash windows, glazing bars, and hoodmoulds that act as impost bands.

Inside, the chapel has a rectangular classical layout with a five-bay design. The ceiling is a renewed coved ribbed style with a corbelled cornice, ventilation panels in the coves, and a foliage rose in each bay. A raked gallery is positioned against the front wall, featuring a foliage panelled front and supported by cast-iron fluted columns with foliage capitals. There is a small great seat in front of a tripartite panelled end wall.
