Description

10 Eastgate is a simple vernacular terrace dating to the 18th century, comprising a row of buildings with two storeys and two windows each. The front facades are finished with scribed render and roughcast, and feature plinths. Numbers 12 and 14 are designed as mirror images of each other. The roofs are steep and covered with slate, with rubble chimney stacks, the stack at number 14 being rendered. The windows are sash windows, with small panes on the first floors of numbers 8 and 16; the first floor of number 18 has modern windows. The original shop fronts have cornices and end pilasters, with numbers 10 to 18 retaining these features. Number 10 has a double-fronted shop, while number 14 features a bowed entablature. The doors are four-panel doors for numbers 8 to 16, with number 8 having a fanlight and number 10 an additional half-glazed shop door; number 18 has a modern door. The rear elevations are of rubble, whitewashed and rendered, with lean-to extensions and cross ranges.
