Description
12 Eastgate is part of a simple vernacular terrace that dates back to the early 19th century, with buildings numbered 8 to 12 appearing on an 1809 map and numbers 14 to 18 by an 1834 map. The terrace features two-storey, two-window fronts with scribed render and roughcast, along with plinths. Numbers 12 and 14 are designed as reflected pairs. The steep slate roofs are complemented by rubble chimney stacks, with the stack on No 14 being rendered. The buildings have sash windows, with small panes on the first floors of Nos 8 and 16, while No 18 has modern windows on its first floor. The shop fronts for Nos 10 to 18 retain their cornices and end pilasters, with No 10 having a double front and No 14 featuring a bowed entablature. The doors consist of four panels for Nos 8 to 16, with No 8 having a fanlight and No 10 an additional half-glazed shop door; No 18 has a modern door.
The rear elevations are constructed of rubble, whitewashed and rendered, featuring lean-tos and cross ranges.
