Description
The Tabernacle Methodist Chapel is a broad, two-storey classical building constructed from rubble, featuring freestone rusticated quoins, a band course, and a plinth. The overall structure is finished with scribed cement render, and it has a pediment with bracket cornices and a blind bullseye. The ends of the building have flank parapets adorned with garlanded urns, which are also present at the apex. The first floor has four Venetian Renaissance bipartite windows, each with keystones and bracket cills. There are paired pitched roof porches in a late Georgian style, flanked by blind recesses, supported by tapered columns on high bases, and featuring four-panel double doors. The sides of the chapel are rendered in cement, while the rear has a brick buttress.
Inside, the chapel retains an earlier plan type but includes later fittings. An organ and a large seat, which was originally on rollers, are located against the entrance front. The raked gallery features some Renaissance details supported by cast iron columns, with a panelled front, squat pilasters, embossed decoration, and a bracket cornice.
