Description

Rock House is a Grade II listed building located at No 2 Pier Street and No 3 Marine Terrace. The building features four-storey elevations, except for the Pier Street side, which has three storeys and a basement. The front of No 3 is finished in painted cement render, while No 2 is covered in stucco. Architectural details include channelled and pilaster strips, cill bands, and a rusticated ground floor. The roofs are slate, with a rubble chimney stack and boxed eaves, and the windows are horned sash glazing.

No 3 has a symmetrical three-window front with outer bay windows and central windows that have architraves only on the first and second floors. There is a splayed half-glazed porch to the right, topped by a cornice. The side elevation has two windows, with a bay to the right and blocked openings on the first and second floors to the left, above a modern entrance.

No 2 features a symmetrical three-window front facing Marine Terrace, divided by pilaster strips. It has similar windows, with a central oriel that is bracketed over the ground floor, and a boarded door to the right. The ground floor is set back behind a rising railed pavement with barley twist uprights. The Pier Street elevation has two windows, offset and divided by pilaster strips. The windows have architraves, with one blocked on the second floor. To the right, there is a fine Doric doorcase with a cornice supported by fluted columns, a half-glazed door, and a lettered fanlight.
