Description

Capel Y Wig is a 19th-century chapel constructed from squared sandstone ashlar, with some square rubble at the front and squared rubble on the sides. It features a slate roof with deep eaves supported by curved brackets from a painted eaves band. The gable front has an open pedimental design, with a large recessed arch breaking into the pediment, which is adorned with stone voussoirs. The sides of the pediment also have a similar band and brackets, above ashlar sections that contain long arched windows. The windows have late 19th or early 20th century 2-light timber tracery with roundels.

The centre of the building has squared rubble on the ground floor, flanking a projected ashlar section that frames an arched doorway with stone voussoirs. This doorway features 20th-century doors and a crescent-shaped overlight. A simple cornice is present, which is broken forward over the projection. The first floor has a large timber-traceried window, likely replacing a small-paned Venetian window, with a 2-light arched centre, roundel, and narrow flat-headed sidelights, all topped with stone voussoirs. Above the window, there is a diamond slate plaque. The sides of the building are squared rubble with three long arched windows, while the rear has two similar windows.

Inside, there is a three-sided gallery with curved angles and long horizontal panels beneath sections of pierced cast iron. The gallery is supported by plain iron columns and features raked pews. The ceiling is timber boarded and panelled, flat in design, and there is a balustraded curved great seat. The pulpit has steps on each side and a 2-panel front with Gothic panelling, with a plaster arch behind it.
