Description
Capel Ffynon is a Gothic-style building featuring a front made of tooled sandstone ashlar and a slate roof. The ornate gable front showcases rich detailing, including a large timber-traceried pointed five-light window with a traceried head and a moulded stone hoodmould that has carved stops. There is a curved triangular plaque at the gable. The pointed door is set in a gabled projection and features moulded coping, shoulders, and two-step side buttresses. The door surround is shafted and pointed, with a chamfered head, stone voussoirs, and a hoodmould that also has carved stops.
A moulded plinth and band run around the porch coping level and continue around the flanking buttresses, rising straight above the first string to the second, which leads to the tall panelled Gothic upper part, adorned with panelling that has a cusped head beneath the stone gable. Each side of the buttress gable is echoed as it is set back under the eaves, leading to a recessed side bay that features a narrow pointed lancet, a hoodmould, and a moulded string above, topped with a short band of triangular panelling. The windows are small-paned sashes with marginal glazing bars and intersecting tracery at the heads.
The sides and rear of the building are constructed of rubble stone, with three-window sides that include long pointed windows, stopped hoodmoulds, and margin-glazed sashes. The rear features a stepped triplet with stepped hoodmoulds, where the outer lights have similar small-paned glazing, while the centre light is blank. Short pieces of ashlar rise from moulded caps at eaves level and are finished with sloping tops, resembling buttresses.
