Description

The Church of St. Tysilio features a nave and a narrower chancel, with a tall early 19th-century gabled west bellcote that has a four-centred arch and an iron cross-finial. The building is constructed of rubble walls, which are partly battered on the north side of the nave, and has slate roofs with overhanging eaves. The west door is pointed and made of stone voussoirs, leading to paired boarded doors. On the south side of the nave, there are three pointed windows with simple 1890 Y-tracery, cusping, and leaded glazing, along with slate sills and stone voussoirs. The north side of the nave has two similar windows. The pointed east window features three-light 1890 timber tracery, with glazing and a head that match the other windows.

Inside, the church has an 1890 arch-braced roof with a low pitch and king-posts, while the chancel has a boarded and ribbed wagon roof of similar date. The chancel arch is plain and extends beyond the chancel wall to the south. There is a plain octagonal font, likely from before the 19th century, and plain late 19th-century pews. The pulpit and chancel fittings are from the 20th century. A screened late 19th-century vestry is located to the northwest of the nave. In the chancel, there are monuments to Rev. J. Jones (died 1887) by D.O. Rees of New Quay and Rev. D. Richards (died 1905). Additionally, there is a Gothic gabled memorial in the nave to Evan and Elizabeth Evans, created in 1882 by Hugh Jones of Caernarfon, and a large veined marble tablet to David and Rachel Jones (1875), signed D.N., featuring a slate surround with quarter-columns and a scrolled top with incised floral decoration.
