Description
9, 10, and 11 Old Church Street in Newtown are two-storey buildings constructed in Flemish bond brick, featuring five bays. The central bay is slightly advanced and topped with a pediment that includes an inset Diocletian window. The roof has a moderate pitch, with modern slates on the front and older slates on the rear, along with bargeboards. A dentil cornice runs along the eaves, and there are brick chimney stacks.
The front of No 11 is symmetrically arranged with two windows. It has small paned iron lights set in timber cross windows, with cambered arches above; headers are used for the first floor, while brick voussoirs are found on the ground floor. No 9 has similar window openings but features modern fenestration. There is a header arch above the first floor cross window in the advanced bay of No 11, and to the right of the door, there is a cut cross window with a flat head and small paned iron lights.
The entrance to No 11 has a six-panel door with a two-light rectangular fanlight in the advanced bay, while the upper panels are glazed and there is no fanlight. No 9 has a modern door. Both buildings have modern gabled hoods. A small paned two-light iron casement is located on the right gable end, with modern windows on the opposite end. The rear elevation features a timber frame with tall panels that are brick nogged and includes tension braces. The framing under the eaves is irregular and squat, with an English garden wall bond base.
At the rear of No 10, there is a curved projecting feature that may have been a former stairwell, with a slate roof extending below the eaves. No 9 has a 19th-century wing at the rear, which includes small paned three-light transomed windows with cambered heads. Inside, there are roughly dressed beams and timber framed partition walls.
