Description
44 Crescent Street, which includes the tunnel passage to 44A, is a three-storey building with a cellar and a two-window front. The exterior is finished in stucco over brick, topped with a gently pitched slate roof and a new brick stack on the right side. The second-floor windows feature six-pane sashes from the late 19th century, set beneath the eaves with plain reveals and stone sills. The first-floor also has six-pane sashes, with a sill band, and a canted bay window on a plinth above the cellar window to the right. This bay window has later 19th-century sashes, a cornice, and a flat roof. Access to the building is via stone steps with iron handrails leading to an elegant early 19th-century doorcase. This doorcase features fluted Doric half columns that support a slight open pediment, with a segmental fanlight above a later 19th-century door. To the left, there is a round-arched tunnel passage entry with a segmental fanlight, which has a modern door.
