Description
The Adjoining Post Office Stores is an 18th-century building that underwent changes in the 19th century. It has a T-plan layout and stands two storeys tall. The exterior is made of painted rubble stone, featuring a platt band and an artificial tile roof with a small eaves dormer. A large projecting rubble chimney stack is located at the right end, accompanied by lean-to additions for a pantry and a bread oven.
The central entrance has a six-panel front door, sheltered by a pitched roof canopy supported by plain brackets. The ground floor includes windows with twelve and nine-pane sashes, while the first floor features horned nine-pane sash windows. At the rear, there is one surviving original window with bead moulding, a mullion, and a transom.
Attached to the east end is a one-and-a-half storey shop-store building, constructed of rubble and slate, which has a 19th-century shop front that includes tall mullion lights and cornice console brackets. Inside, there are several surviving period features, such as scroll-stopped beams, a boarded door with strap hinges, an open fireplace with a timber lintel, and a brick-lined bread oven. Additionally, very wide steps lead down to a cellar from just inside the front door.
