Description
This is a mid-18th century house, later altered in the 19th century, located on King Street, Lancaster. Originally a double-depth, two-unit plan building with a cellar to the right, it is now used as a shop and flats. The exterior is constructed of coursed squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and chamfered quoins, topped with a composition tile roof and brick chimney stacks. The front has three storeys and four bays. The ground floor features a central doorway with a shouldered architrave, pulvinated frieze, and a segmental pediment resting on carved brackets. To the left is an inserted shop window and doorway beneath a fascia and blind box. A shuttered cellar opening and a pair of windows are on the right. The upper floors each have four windows arranged in pairs, all with moulded architraves and sash windows lacking glazing bars. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the building. The rear of the building has a large, elliptical stair-window, now largely blocked, but containing a two-light window on each floor.
