Description
Vron Farmhouse is a two-storey building with a cellar, constructed from coursed rubble that shows evidence of at least three different phases of work and is overpainted on the front and sides. The left-hand portion of the farmhouse is an addition featuring a granary loft that is accessed by external stone steps at the gable end. The roof is hipped, with sections covered in both slate and stone tiles. There are three chimneys: a large rubble ridge stack located to the right of the center, a tall rubble stack at the rear right, and a small brick ridge stack at the left end.
The farmhouse has an open-fronted porch made of rubble with a pitched slate roof. The front door is boarded and hung on gudgeon pins, complete with an overlight. There is a part-glazed, panelled door leading to the ground floor granary end, as well as a boarded door for the loft. The window openings vary in age, with some featuring cambered heads, others with flat voussoir heads, and some with plain timber lintels. The first-floor rear window is a small-paned iron-framed casement, while the front elevation includes larger iron-framed casements and a mix of modern large-pane designs. The rear wall has fewer and smaller openings, as it is partially built into the hillslope.
Internally, the farmhouse has a three-unit plan with a massive internal stack. The middle room contains two axial beams that have a wide chamfer and straight-cut stops, along with exposed joists. The right-hand end room has been reduced in size due to a remodelled stairs hall and features an ovolo moulded axial beam. This area has only been partially inspected.
