Description
41 and 42 Mount Street in Welshpool are a pair of houses that may date back to the late 18th century, although most of their exterior details come from a remodeling in the mid-19th century. They are built from well-coursed and squared local stone and have a slate roof, with stone axial stacks positioned at the rear. The houses are three stories tall, each designed as a single unit with a double pile plan. The rear elevations were originally shorter and have been raised with brick. There are entrances on either side, with the doorway to No 40 being renewed, while No 42 retains its original opening, which features an overlight and a stone lintel adorned with a central rosette. The flanking windows are 8-pane horned sashes. These houses are particularly noteworthy as well-preserved examples of vernacular townhouses that utilize local materials.
