Description
The former coach-house and stables at Maenol, also known as Maenol Cottage, is a two-storey U-plan building dating from the 19th century. The main elevations are constructed of stock brick with a stone plinth, while the rear features rubble with stock brick dressings. The building has a slate roof with a red brick chimney stack and boarded eaves.
The front facade has three gabled windows, with cross ranges extending forward to the earlier side and a small attic gable at the center, which is adorned with decorative bargeboards and a finial. The windows vary in style, primarily consisting of casements, except for the right-hand ground floor window, which is a paired sash. There is a lancet opening at the center that includes a datestone, and below it is an insurance plaque from the Salop Brick Company, the supplier of materials for the building.
A lean-to hood covers the segmental arched coach entrance, which features chamfered brick voussoirs. The doors are herringbone boarded and splayed forward, with additional boarded doors located in the return angles on either side. On the left side, there are paired sash and casement windows, along with a modern lean-to porch. The central bay is stepped back at the rear, where a low cross range projects, containing a small cowshed. This area includes a round arched industrial-type window and a finial on the gable end.
