Description
Claremont is a 2-storey building featuring a symmetrical three-window façade made of lightly polychromatic brick. The front is constructed from stock brick with dark brown brick quoins, a red brick cornice, and blue brick banding and plinth. It has dark brick chimney stacks, a hipped slate roof, and wide bracket eaves. The windows are 12-pane sash types, adorned with segmental arched banded voussoirs and dropped keystones, along with a deep impost band on the ground floor. The tall doorcase includes a bracket cornice, panelled reveals, and a 6-panel door.
On the side elevation facing Smithfield Street, there are 4-pane sashes and tripartite windows to the right, which includes a ground floor bay. The rear of the building is made of red brick.
There are low forecourt walls on both sides with finialled railings. The previously gated opening on the Smithfield Street front features gate piers and steps leading to the back, which were added when the building was used as the Employment Exchange. There is also a higher forecourt wall to the right of the main front.
