Description
7 Smithfield Street is a three-storey terrace of industrial housing, likely built around 1830, that originally included a small woolen factory on the top floor. The building features a two-window facade for No. 3, which was probably the manager's house, and a one-window facade for the other units, arranged in reflected pairs. The exterior is roughcast with a painted plinth and has a renewed slate roof with mostly rendered brick chimney stacks and wide boarded eaves. The property retains some small pane sash windows, with 9 and 12 panes throughout Nos. 3 and 5. There are later half-glazed doors and two small windows on the left end, which once had a door for a weaving loft on the gable. The rear has modern windows, and No. 3 is shallower than the others. A high revetment wall is located beyond the building, adjacent to the former castle mound.
