Description

New Bridge Mechain is a 19th-century bridge constructed from margin dressed 'scabled' rubble stone. It features two catenary arches supported by a single water pier, with battered end abutments. The arch is slightly inset and made of large local mixed stone voussoirs, topped by a projecting extrados. There is an obtuse triangular cutwater, which has been stepped out to support a late 19th-century widening made of plated iron. The bridge is finished with a lattice iron parapet.
