Description

21 Broad Street is a late 19th-century building featuring a rendered exterior over brick and a hipped slate roof, with rear axial and end wall stacks. Historical photographs from the late 19th century show the building originally had exposed brickwork and stone dressings, including angle quoins, which have since been modified into stressed angle pilasters. The structure stands three storeys tall with an attic and has a four-window range, articulated by corner and central pilasters.

The ground floor showcases a late 19th-century shop front, which includes two entrances flanked by three tall bow windows. These windows are enhanced with side mirror strips and decorated with colorful motifs of birds and flowers. A continuous moulded fascia runs above the shop front. Each floor above features 12-pane sash windows with cambered heads, and there is a string course above the first floor, complemented by a central pilaster that panels the facade. The building is topped with a modillion eaves cornice and includes two hipped dormers with 6-pane sash windows within the roof.

Additionally, there is a four-window return range to Church Street, which is also panelled by pilaster strips. This side has a disused doorway with a moulded architrave on the ground floor and similar windows on the upper storeys, with the corner and third windows being blind. The roof features three hipped dormers.
