Description
The Inner Gateway and Screen Walls to the Stable Courtyard at Stanage Park are designed in a picturesque castle style. The gateway features partly coursed rubble construction with a battlemented parapet and a pointed arch made of two orders, using ashlar voussoirs that are chamfered on the garden side. The outer side has false machicolations and buttresses. Originally, the gateway had large timber doors, but these have been replaced with low cast iron ornamental gates that feature quatrefoil bands at the bases and the top, dated 1871 and initialed FLB.
Stepped screen walls extend to the north, connecting to the south round turret of the house, and to the south, they adjoin the coach house, which is part of the stable courtyard.
