Description

Bontglantanat Farmhouse and Barn is a two-storey, three-window farmhouse that faces south towards its farmyard. It is constructed from uncoursed quasi-rubble slate masonry and features a restored slate roof with a tile ridge and a brick mid-chimney. There are two later rear wings made of similar masonry and roofing that span the full width of the main building, each with a brick end-chimney.

The front elevation includes two main windows on the upper floor and two below, along with a small additional upper window on the left (west). The windows are two- or three-light mullion types with iron casements and glazing bars, set on stone sills. The lower openings have timber lintels, and there is a plain door located off-centre to the right. A rooflight is also present.

An opening beneath the adjacent granary provides access to the rear entrance of the house on its right side (east). This area features a plain door on the flank of the rear extension, along with a two-light upper window and a three-light lower window, both constructed similarly to the front windows. The lower window and the door have brick segmental arches and stone sills. The rear gable wall of the west rear extension also has three-light windows.

The barn range is built in similar stonework, except for the granary link, which is timber-clad. It has a random slate roof made of small courses. The front of the barn features a heck door with a brick segmental arch, slit ventilators on either side, and an exterior staircase to the granary on the left, made of stone with some brick repairs. At the rear, the barn has another heck door aligned with the front door, a lower door to the east storage bay, a ventilation slit, and two 19th-century round openings in the brickwork.

Inside the east rear wing, there is a large fireplace and an extremely steep staircase at the side.
